Workshop information

This is not your average workshop. It is an intense, 4 days hands-on, trouble-shooting course, designed to meet the specific needs of each individual student and his or her dog.

Far from following a script, the course is customised for YOU. Cheri’s goal is to teach you to view the dog’s issues through the dog’s eyes, so that training becomes second nature to you. Almost automatic.
Any relationship, whether human or canine, has to have a solid and healthy foundation; one built on trust and communication, but, you can’t rush this process. Although Cheri has many years of experience as a dog behaviourist and trainer, he still begins by working each dog with nothing more than a simple slip lead. This technique gives her the opportunity to get a natural feel for the dog, and to begin the process of making a connection with him. If a trainer moves on to complicated techniques too quickly, they miss the opportunity to master and perfect foundational skills.

Some of the most renowned dog trainers in history never had access to fancy leashes, collars, or electronic equipment, yet they did remarkable jobs training dogs. They wrote books that are still in print to this day. This is because their instincts were flawless, and they knew better than to push a dog too fast.
Cheri has become increasingly aware of a need among both beginner and experienced professional trainers to fill a missing link. When students are faced with a new client dog, they are often paralysed – unable to know how to begin. It’s more than just information overload … it’s the inability to put all the information they have learnt together, to create a genuinely effective strategy for each case. This workshop was created by Lucas Agnew to be that missing link.
Here are some highlights of what this workshop has to offer:

• How to properly evaluate the case.
•Is your client’s interpretation of their dog’s issues accurate?
• How to fine tune and perfect leash work; making it fluid and effortless.
• How to determine the difference between dog aggression and reactivity.
• How to socialise dogs together; being fearless while managing risk.
• What are drives? Why are they so important?
• How to develop effective strategies; knowing when to change or stay the course.
• How to read compliance; is it physical or psychological?
• Perfecting your use of spatial, leash, tactile and psychological pressure.
• How to manage your work with multiple client dogs.
• How to market yourself for maximum potential.
• How to create programs for clients that meet their needs and are profitable for you.
• How does nutrition and fitness affect dog behaviour and why it’s imperative to discuss with your client.
• How to become a trainer who treats the dog as a “whole.”
This is not a scripted workshop. Each workshop is unique in content and situations covered, due to a variation of participants and dog issues.
